Sara is in the garden with Dad. He has a small paper bag. He opens it. There is something small and brown inside.
Sara looks at it. She says, "What is this?"
"It is a seed," Dad says. "If we plant it, a flower will grow."
Sara looks at the tiny seed. "It is so small," she says. "How can a flower grow from this?"
"Let's find out," Dad says. He digs a small hole in the dirt. Sara puts the seed inside. She covers it with soil.
"Now what?" Sara asks.
"Now we water it," Dad says. Sara gets a small watering can. She pours water on the soil, slowly.
The next day, Sara runs to the garden. She looks at the dirt. Nothing is there. "Where is my flower?" she asks.
"It is still growing under the soil," Dad says. "Plants need time."
Sara waters the seed again. She waits. Two days pass. Three days pass. Sara checks every morning.
On the fourth day, Sara runs outside. She sees something new. It is small and green. It comes up from the soil.
Sara says, "What is this?"
"It is a sprout!" Dad says. "Your flower is starting to grow!"
Sara claps her hands. "It's really growing!" she says. She waters it gently every day.
Days pass. The sprout gets taller. It gets a stem. It gets small green leaves.
One morning, Sara sees something new again. It is a small circle. It has color. She says, "What is this?"
"It is a flower bud!" Dad says. "It will open soon."
The next day, Sara runs outside first thing. The bud has opened. It is a bright yellow flower.
"I did it!" Sara says. "I grew a flower!"
Dad smiles. "You did a great job, Sara. You were patient, and you took care of it every day."
Sara looks at her flower proudly. "I want to plant another one!" she says.
See you next time, Sara!
